America s Influence On American Culture - 1414 Words
Popular culture in America has visibly had an immense impact in other countries. It has created superheros such as Superman and The Avengers, invented cartoons that symbolize the childhoods of the youth such as Mickey Mouse and Scooby Doo, and globalized figures such as Martin Luther King Jr. There is no doubt that these idols represent positive images that spread influential ideas to other countries, but these positive ideas are only a small fraction of what American popular culture is. American pop culture invades other cultures and societies and to evade these intentions is nearly impossible. Many of these countries tend to look at the United States with disgust because of the way their culture is shadowed by them. The popular cultureâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Popular culture is giving America a bad reputation, and according to the Pew Global Attitudes Survey, ââ¬Å"individuals who have traveled to the U.S. have more favorable views of the country than those who have notâ⬠(Source C). America is not a bad country. It is the land of the free, the home of the brave, yet this nationalism is clouded by the popular culture. America is no longer known for it being a free, democratic nation, it is known for its entertainment which is exactly why the people who have never been there are bound to have a more unfavorable view compared to those who have. Look at the United States of America without the pop culture. Is there anything that really gives it a bad image? Maybe a few political disputes, but as a whole the only thing that gives it the reputation that so many people dislike is the popular culture. Not only does American popular culture overshadow the goodness of America, it also blurs other countriesââ¬â¢ cultures. Every part of America is big: the entertainment industry, the food business, the economy, so it makes sense how irresistible it is to morph to American culture. However, it is unfair. The world is becoming homogenized. In large cities i n nearly any country, a Starbucks or McDonaldââ¬â¢s can be found, and advertisements for Hollywood films will be aired. This homogenization is a

E-Commerce & Social Media Marketing
Question: Discuss about the E-Commerce Social Media Marketing. Answer: Introduction: According to Stoica et al. (2015), marketing through social media plays a pivotal role in marketing strategy, since it does not only provide more exposure to the business but it also enables the customers and clients to have detailed information about an organization. It also allows the business to interact with its customers and get to know them as well. It helps in keeping track of the potential customers and enables the business to know what impression it has on people. In other words, it is one of the most cost effective ways of marketing as it reduces the cost of promotion and marketing by providing an exposure of the business to non-existent customers and increasing the brand loyalty. An organization not having any social marketing strategy has very limited access, as its existing customers and clients only know it. Various social sites (Facebook and Twitter), blogs or company websites can bring about social media marketing. This assignment focuses on the social media marketing strategy of a large pharmaceutical company IDL Australia Limited and its efficacy compared to other pharmaceutical companies (Park et al., 2015). Sound In Poetry Essays (1089 words) - Poetic Rhythm, Alliteration
Sound In Poetry Shana Williamson April 7, 2000 English 110B-Frank Essay #2 Sound in Poetry Poems usually begin with words or phrase which appeal more because of their sound than their meaning, and the movement and phrasing of a poem. Every poem has a texture of sound, which is at least as important as the meaning behind the poem. Rhythm, being the regular recurrence of sound, is at the heart of all natural phenomena: the beating of a heart, the lapping of waves against the shore, the croaking of frogs on a summer's night, the whisper of wheat swaying in the wind. Rhythm and sound and arrangement ?the formal properties of words?allow the poet to get beyond, or beneath the surface of a poem. Both Gwendolyn Brooks' ?Sadie and Maud? (799) and Anne Bradstreet's ?To My Dear and Loving Husband? (784) emphasize poetic sound to express their themes. Used to enhance sound in a poem, alliteration is the repetition of sound in consecutive or neighboring words, usually at the beginning of words. Both Brooks and Bradstreet make use of alliteration in their poems. ?Sadie stayed at home. / Sadie scraped life (2-3) the repetition of s is evident in these two lines, reflecting the sassiness and independence that Sadie possessed. ?Then while we live, in love lets [persevere]? (11) the slow musical repetition of the l sounds reflect the romantic emphasis in the poem. Assonance?the repetition of the same or similar vowel sound, especially in stressed syllables?can also enrich a poem. Assonance can be used to unify a poem as in Bradstreet's poem in which it emphasizes the thematic connection among words and unifies the poem's ideas of the husband and wife becoming one. ?Compare with me ye woman if you can? (4). In Brook's poem, repeated vowel sounds extend throughout. Brooks indirectly links certain words and by connecting these words, she calls attention to the imagery that helps communicate the poems theme of how different two people who grew up in the same household can be. ?Under her maiden name/ Maud and Ma and Papa (10-11). In addition to alliteration and assonance, poets create sound patterns with rhyme. The conventional way to describe a poem's rhyme scheme is to chart rhyming words that appear at the ends of lines. In Brooks' poem the rhyme scheme is abcb, defe which reinforces the way two things can begin the same, but change as time goes on. Naturally, rhyme does not have to be subtle to enrich a poem. An obvious rhyme scheme like the one in Bradstreet's poem is aabb, ccdd can communicate meaning by forcing attention on a relationship between two people that are not normally linked. The poem's theme speaks of the husband and wife becoming one, the poem's rhyme scheme is of two consecutive lines belonging together and having one sound. Rhyme can also be classified according to the position of the rhyming syllables in a line of verse. Bradstreet's poem contains beginning rhyme, Brooks' poem, on the other hand, contains only end rhyme. ?I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold/ My love is such that rivers cannot quench/ Thy love is such I can in no way repay?(5, 7, 9). ?Her girls struck out from home/ Her fine-tooth comb? (14, 16). Poets, too, create rhyme by using repeated words and phrases. ?Sadie scraped life/ with a fine-toothed comb? (3-4) and ?Sadie had left as heritage/ her fine-tooth comb? (15-16). The repeated phrases ?Sadie? and ?Maud?, which shift from one subject to the other and back again ?Maud went to college/ Sadie stayed at home? (1-2). The poem has a singing rhythm that resembles a song that children play to. The remembrance of carefree childhood ironically contrasts with the adulthood that both Sadie and Maud now face as they grow up: Sadie stays home and has two children out of wedlock; Maud goes to college and ends up ?a thin brown mouse?. Repeated phrases in Bradstreet's poem include ?if ever? and ?love?. ?If ever two were one then surely we. / If ever man were loved by wife then thee? (1-2). ?My Love is such that rivers cannot quench, / Nor ought but love from the give recompence? (9-10). With such recurrence, the poem

Moral views of Natty Bumpo from the essays
Moral views of Natty Bumpo from the essays Natty Bumpo is the main character of James Fenimore Coopers Leatherstocking Tales. His moral views are based upon his religious devotion to absolute, not relative, truth, the truth that is in accord with the laws of nature. Hence his acceptance of cultural pluralities and his tolerant understanding of different moral views. Since Natty Bumpo is conceived as a mythical figure, he is given a very vague origin. He hardly remembers his early childhood and white family. In the Deerslayer Cooper informs the reader only that Natty was raised by some missionaries among the friendly Indian tribe, the Delawares. Natty is proud of his white origin and though he has grown up among the Indians and has formed a deep and a life-long friendship with the young Delaware chief Chingachgook, he never becomes indianized. Though he has never accepted formal religion, he remains a Christian and his last wish is that something from the Holy Book be written on his tombstone. Natty Bumpo is illiterate and knows rather little about the world beyond the wilderness. In the wilderness, however, he has no rival. His eye is sharp, his hand quick, his shot precise. He knows the laws of the forest. From nature he has learned prudence, foresight, responsibility, respect, humility and simplicity. The forest is both the source of his existence and his great love. He objects to any kind of purposeless destruction of nature. Natty Bumpos greatest gift is the reverence for life, though he is a hunter and a fighter, and can never be seen without his rifle, Kildeer. His extraordinary skill with the rifle limits his killing to utmost necessity. He considers human life to be much more valuable than any property. He fires only when his life is absolutely endangered. Natty is endowed the greatest gift God has given man, the faculty to distinguish good from evil. He is surrounded by Indians, both good and evil, as well by the white fro...

The book the Scarlet letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne Research Paper
The book the Scarlet letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne - Research Paper Example The meteor ââ¬â A message from God Symbolism is nothing but employing concrete symbols to display a detailed and deeper meaning. Symbols sometimes present a moral belief, religious belief or value. Literature works are never rich without the use of symbolism. In Nathaniel Hawthorne's celebrated work The Scarlet Letter, the novelist lavishly uses symbols that have a deeper meaning. This can be considered as the most symbolic piece of literature that the American literature has ever seen. The splendid use of symbolism in this works has contributed much to the rise of American literature. The most obvious symbol in the work is the scarlet ââ¬Å"Aâ⬠that the main character is required to wear. The novelist makes use of symbolism to explain how the Puritans and their people dealt with sin and how that affects sinners. The scarlet letter ââ¬ËAââ¬â¢ shows sin Hester performed and the way Puritans treated Hesterââ¬â¢s sin. The entire story is centered on this symbol Scar à ¢â¬Å"Aâ⬠. Hester Prynne gives birth to a baby after committing adultery. She struggles to build a new life of dignity and repentance. In the case of Hester Prynne also society inflicts her with isolation and discrimination. As she committed adultery she was forced to wear a scarlet ââ¬Å"Aâ⬠which is a punishment for her. She suffered complete isolation as society considered her as nothing but an adulteress. As she had to wear the scarlet ââ¬Å"Aâ⬠she remained fully ostracized from the community. Hesterââ¬â¢s inner longings never confirmed to the rigid laws of the puritan society. She was thus secluded from the society that made her contemplate the sin and other events in her life. Solitude made her make an attempt to free herself from the pricking of the sin. Hester is publicly humiliated and thrown to isolation by the people of Boston. She carries the badge of humiliation and isolation. Hester could escape from the solitude by leaving the Massachusetts Bay Co lony. She could remove the scarlet letter and lead a normal life if she had left the place. Hester, however, behaves indifferently as Chillingworth informs her that the town leaders are planning to relieve her from the scarlet letter. The solitude did not deprive Hester of her clear thoughts and determination. She desired to determine her own identity rather than allowing others to determine her identity. Hester never desired a mercy from others. She rather effectively used the life of isolation to realize her mistake and rebuild her life again. Isolation produced a positive effect on Hester. Hester considers the scarlet letter as a symbol of her sin and painful experiences. She doesnââ¬â¢t want to escape from her past and rather desired to learn from her past failures. Solitude is no longer a curse for Hester. Thus, Hester very determinedly integrates her sin into her life rather than escaping from its consequences. The symbol scarlet ââ¬Å"Aâ⬠, describes the life of the c entral character in the work. The novelist has explained the life of the central character through the symbolic scarlet ââ¬Å"Aâ⬠which she wears. The letter ââ¬Å"Aâ⬠has a better abstract meaning, ââ¬Å"Aâ⬠means American. During those periods America was a religion was a more religion-based country than it is today. The Puritan way of life influences Boston and several other regions of America. Americans were heavily punished for going against the Christian religion. Yet another interpretation for letter ââ¬Å"Aâ⬠is ââ¬Ëableââ¬â¢

Google and its Evil Face Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Google and its Evil Face - Essay Example The world declares the search engine as a mine for information, but fails to look at the down side to it since in reality Google is a corruption of the world in relation to information, privacy and security. Google states its mission as the organization of the worldââ¬â¢s information so that it can be reached by anyone in the world. However, even when it provides plenty of information to the reader, this search engine is the worst thing to have happened to our society in relation to worsening of peoplesââ¬â¢ reading habits, where there is no more reading in books. This is affecting comprehension of content acquired from reading books and read from Google search results. Google is a great tool to get any form of information; however, it is creating negative tendencies in our society. This is concerning Google users becoming careless on the information they search for and the safety concerns on privacy (Staff and Agencies). For this reason, searching for information on Google sho uld involve allocation of enough time in order to search for adequate information and resources, while putting into consideration privacy and security concerns. In fact, what society gets by using Google is quantity information, and not quality, which is what people instinctively want. Therefore, the public gets into a comfort zone, which it does not intend to leave due to the ease of operation for humans in that level. For instance, on a five-year research program the British Library and one by a U.K. educational consortium, they found out that people get obsessed with looking for information once they log on (Carr). In such cases, the users search for articles and journals that they do not necessarily read or intend to read, but instead keep searching. After this, the focus lies in skimming through the articles without taking the time to understand the concept. Consequently, people do not go to libraries to find information in books or from the periodicals rooms. As a result, Goog le is affecting the society through giving them quantity and by that, people stop reading books because; with only typing in Google search what they need, it would be an instant when they get the answers and all the necessary information requested. Google as any other social network wants to control what the users do. Therefore, they would not go and join other search engines, which provide email and the location where they are. Google is controlling the users by buying new markets and expanding in new areas, they get new features, a faster search and there is no one that can compete with this search engine (Rooketix Ltd). Similarly, bringing of Chrome for Android into the market has revealed how Google is potential of remembering all our browsing history and their capacity to transfer it into the cloud (Moreni). Therefore, if anyone is logged into a Google account, it is stated in the Google privacy policy that any service used will be able to track universally by using the e-mail address and your current location. Moreover, they are able to track everything you search for, and as long as you look for that same topic repeatedly, advertisements will start to appear on the sides according to the most current topics every user searches (Davies). Google based on its mission statement has gone as far as attempting to collect as much information as it can. This is in relation to creating a form of online storage the documents and other files that people have. Following the mission statement of Google, it seeks to create a database of all the knowledge that exists in the world and place it in a central place for all to access free of charge. In light of this, Google has come up with Google Drive, which saves up to five gigabytes of user documents;
